Talkin' about a revolution...

I do not want to be a part of any institution that is more concerned with perpetuating itself than in caring for its members, others, and the world.

The Church is obsessed with its own self-preservation. And that will be its death. You know, it is not our job to save the Church; it is our calling to serve God in the world. Ironically, if we are faithful in our service, the Church will continue on, in one way or another, for another day of loving and caring. Of course, it may not look like the instituations we have now, but the Body will continue in the ministry of Christ.

We need to do away with the heartless, institutional crap. As far as the Church is concerned, I think we are beyond need of reformation. We need revolution. And we need resurrection.

So maybe we need to let the institutional church continue in its self-serving, self-preserving mission. Just let it die. And then the Body of Christ can be resurrected to do some real ministries of justice, compassion, mercy, and passion. Who's with me?

Love this. Particularly the part about how an obsessive focus on self-preservation ultimately dooms an institutional church. Though part of me hopes that resurrection can happen within our churches, I am becoming saddened by the lack of progress and cynical about the possibilities.

Peace

You know, resurrection ain't possible without death. I think we have to let it go, let it die, and then see what rises from the ashes. Or the empty tomb. Whatever mythology you choose.
