When my nephew Will first heard that my brother, Will's Uncle Chris, was deploying to Iraq, specifically the Anbar Province, he was deeply disturbed. Will suggested, "Mama, we really should pray." My sister replied, "Yes, Will, we need pray. Things are so messed up in that country and in our country. that maybe prayer is the only thing that can help. We need to put it in God's hands." Surprised, Will declared, "Mom, we still have to do things. We need to be God's back-up." Inaction is not acceptable.
St. Teresa of Avila wrote, "Christ has no body now but yours. No hands, no feet on earth but yours. Yours are the eyes through which He looks compassion on this world." And I think my six-year-old nephew summed up Teresa's sentiment well, reminding us all that we're to be God's back-up, God's hands working for God's peace in this world.
Amen. May it be so.

well said - I am fascinated with the incarnation lately, and am reminded that we are an extention of that every day.
It's hard raising such a wise child... now I have to be God's wingman? I'll give it a try. H
