make a wish

Last Saturday was a glorious afternoon, a perfect day for taking a book to the Point and chillin' with my 'mates. It was lovely. I was there with Scott, Pam, Adam, Mercedes, and Irv. We didn't talk much - I don't think we exchanged more than a dozen lines between us - but the afternoon of quiet company was nourishment for my soul.

At one point, I climbed down the limestone "sea"-wall to dip my feet into the chilly waters of Lake Michigan. Very near where the wave were splashing and crashing, I saw a solitary dandelion, already gone to seed, with the tenacity to grow in a crevice in the rock. I felt inspired.

So I snapped a photo.

Then, as I joined my breath to the wind off the lake and scattered the seeds of the dandelion, I made a wish: for courage, for the tenacity to grow and to flourish in precarious places.

What about you? What do you wish for?

Note: I believe this photo captures a glimpse of the lake through a cleft in the rock wall.

Rachel-Where many people see a weed, an irritant, a bane upon the green lawns of America, you see beauty, courage, tenacity, perserverance! But, what else would I expect of you? You always look for the best in people and circumstances. You are firm in your convictions and unafraid of voicing them (even when driving in traffic-I read all of your blog entries)! My wish....that as I continue to walk my journey on this earth, I will remain true to what I know is right and good. I wish that I had more time to spend in silence, in meditation, in prayer, in oneness with God. I wish I had more times to enjoy the beauty of this earth. I wish you could be at my house and watch the nightly ballet performance of the barn swallows, as they dance across winter wheat fields, or watch "Bucky" and "Betty" (our resident deer) enjoy the mulberry trees, or see "Rocky" the racoon climb my birdfeeder, to eat sunflower seeds, or play with our new batch of barn kittens! And I wish you could be here to go to the Canal concert with me and the Carter girls...it will be Carrie Newcomer and Krista Detor! I wish alot, don't I?! But, mostly, I wish you happiness! I miss you! Debi

Debi, I have always loved dandelions. I used to pick them and weave them into crowns to wear when I was little.

Oh, I wish I could have been there for the concert, too. You know I love Carrie, but even more you and Sara and Ashley!

The barn dance sounds lovely...

Great photo. And I am feeling better, not a hundred percent, but at least I can get a few things done. Thanks.

I always wish for the same thing: Peace. And the more I wish for it,the more I am aware of it around me. Thanks for sharing your experience with the dandelion.
